Updated: Sep 15

If you’ve ever wanted to bake your own bread but didn’t know where to start, this is your invitation. You don’t need fancy tools, expensive ingredients, or years of experience, you just need good flour, a little time, and a willingness to try.

This is your guide to baking just one loaf - a simple, nourishing bread that will give you the joy of pulling something warm, golden, and homemade from your oven.

🌾 Why Start With One Loaf?

  • It feels doable (not overwhelming).

  • You get a real taste of what stoneground flour can do.

  • You build confidence step by step, success with one loaf makes you hungry for more.

The Recipe: Stoneground Loaf

You’ll need:

  • 350g warm water

  • 1tsp sugar

  • 1 1/2 tsp instant yeast

  • 450g stoneground bread flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 15g extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  1. Mix all ingredients together to form a shaggy dough.

  2. Knead 8–10 minutes by hand (or use a dough mixer/thermomix). The dough should feel smooth and elastic.

  3. First Rise: Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).

  4. Shape & Second Rise: Gently shape into a loaf, place in a tin or on a tray, cover, and let rise again until puffy. (approx 30-45 min)

  5. Bake: Preheat oven to 175°C. Bake for 30–40 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.

  6. Cool: Let it rest on a wire rack before slicing (if you can resist!).

✨ Your Quick Win

By tonight, you’ll have:

  • A loaf of real bread to share with your family.
